One who apostatizes from Islam and then repents owes no making up of the prayers

Question:
Is an apostate required to make up the prayers and fasts he missed if he returns to Islam and repents to Allah?
Answer:
He owes no making up of missed prayers, and whoever repents, Allah accepts his repentance. If a person abandons prayer, or commits one of the nullifiers of Islam, and then Allah guides him and he repents, he owes no making up of missed prayers. This is the correct view among the scholars; for Islam wipes out what came before it, and repentance demolishes what came before it. Allah said::[al-Anfal:38] Thus Allah made it clearthat if a disbeliever embraces Islam, Allah forgives him what has passed before. And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:

Say to those who have disbelieved [that] if they cease, what has previously occurred will be forgiven for them
قُلْ لِلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا إِنْ يَنْتَهُوا يُغْفَرْ لَهُمْ مَا قَدْ سَلَفَRepentance wipes out what came before it, and Islam demolishes what was before it
التوبة تجب ما قبلها، والإسلام يهدم ما كان قبله
