Question:
From Hadramaut in Yemen, the questioner (A. A. S.) says: A person mocked something of the religion with his tongue, then he regretted it, and after that he repented. Will his repentance be accepted? And if he had good deeds before the repentance, will Allah count them for him or not? And will he sin if he mocked without intending it in his heart, and he sought refuge from Satan? What is required of him in this case?
Answer:
Yes, if he embraced Islam and repented, Allah will accept his repentance, and He will preserve his previous deeds for him. His deeds are only invalidated if he dies upon apostasy. As for if he mocked the religion, or the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), or the Qur'an, then repented to Allah and regretted it, Allah will accept his repentance and preserve his previous deeds for him. As the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to Hakim ibn Hizam:Sahih Muslim 123a And Allah says—(Exalted and Majestic is He): [al-Baqarah:161] So He made the condition for the invalidation of their deeds that they die while they are disbelievers; this condition is necessary.
The point is: if he dies upon disbelief, his deeds are invalidated. For this reason, He said in the other verse: [al-Baqarah:217]
But if he dies while he is a Muslim, and Allah has accepted his repentance and guided him, then all his good deeds, such as Hajj and prayer, and others, remain for him. Praise be to Allah.

You accepted Islam with all the previous virtues that you practised.
أسلمت على ما أسلفت من خيرIndeed, those who disbelieve and die while they are disbelievers
إِنَّ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا وَمَاتُوا وَهُمْ كُفَّارٌThe point is: if he dies upon disbelief, his deeds are invalidated. For this reason, He said in the other verse:
and dies while he is a disbeliever - for those, their deeds have become worthless in this world and the Hereafter
فَيَمُتْ وَهُوَ كَافِرٌ فَأُوْلَئِكَ حَبِطَتْ أَعْمَالُهُمْ فِي الدُّنْيَا وَالآخِرَةِBut if he dies while he is a Muslim, and Allah has accepted his repentance and guided him, then all his good deeds, such as Hajj and prayer, and others, remain for him. Praise be to Allah.
