The second question of Fatwa No. ( 18853 )
Q 2: Sometimes we make this supplication: “O Allah, we do not ask You to reverse the decree, but we ask You for gentleness in it.” Is this supplication permissible, or does it contain a contradiction? We want a sufficient answer.
A 2: We do not know that this supplication is reported from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), so it is better to leave it. There are other supplications that suffice for it, such as:Al-Mustadrak lil-Hakim 18:112 narrated by Ahmad and Ibn Majah and the author of (al-Mustadrak),
and he said: “The chain is authentic.” And like what Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) mentioned, he said:Al-Adab Al-Mufrad 669 Sufyan , who is one of the narrators of the hadith, said: “The hadith has three [items], and I added one; I do not know which one it is.” Narrated by al-Bukhari . And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
