Working at an embassy and receiving expenses and rights in his name, then converting them into the local currency and taking the difference

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa number ( 12472 )
Q: I work at one of the embassies, and I was responsible for paying salaries and renting the premises. The country I belong to sent checks in my name, so I would somehow cash them and convert them into the currency of the country where I am, and I would earn a large amount from that, and I did not inform anyone of what I was doing. I paid the salaries and the rent for the premises, and I did this only once. I heard that this is contrary to the Shari'ah. Is this action contrary to the Shari'ah? If so, do I have to return what I took, or give it to the poor, or what should I do? I ask you to kindly guide me by answering at my address. May Allah guide you, protect you, and lead us to the straight path. Peace be upon you and Allah's mercy and blessings.
A: The work you did is not permissible, and you are obligated to return the amount you took as profit to the country you belong to.
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
