Seeking Aid from Shrines
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The second question of Fatwa No. ( 16331 )
Q 2: What is the ruling on one who gives money to the vow boxes found in shrines, or seeks blessing from graves, or seeks blessing from the dead through perfume, and who circumambulates the graves claiming to take blessing from the dead? Also, some singers sing songs with music that contain the following: "My master 'Abd al-Rahim , help! My master Ibrahim , help!"?
A 2 : Seeking blessing from graves, meaning seeking blessing from the dead, is major shirk (associating partners with Allah). If the intention is to seek blessing from Allah through the dead, this is one of the means of shirk. As for offering vows to the dead, it is major shirk, because a vow is an act of worship, and whoever directs it to other than Allah is a mushrik (one who associates partners with Allah). Prayer behind one who seeks blessing from graves, or vows to them, or slaughters for them, or seeks aid from their inhabitants is not valid, because he is a mushrik. As for songs and music, they are haram (forbidden), because they are of the forbidden amusement. If they include calling upon the dead and seeking help from them, that is major shirk.
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad and his family and his Companions.
