Slaughter at Shrines
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The sixth question of Fatwa No. ( 6949 ):
Q6: Some people say that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to slaughter and give charity on behalf of Khadijah, and they make this an argument for slaughtering at shrines, saying that we give charity to them. Is this permissible?
A6: The action of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) is not like the action mentioned in the question; because he did not slaughter at shrines or seek blessing from the righteous, rather he slaughtered it as a means of drawing near to Allah and distributed it among the wives of Khadijah (may Allah be pleased with them) as a bond of kinship and charity. As for the innovators, they slaughter at graves as a means of drawing near to the one buried in them, hoping for the blessing of the occupant of the shrine, and this is shirk (associating partners with Allah), even if they give the meat of the slaughtered animal in charity. And success is from Allah. And may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
