The first question of Fatwa No. ( 17638 )
Q1: When does the day begin for Muslims , is it from the appearance of dawn, or after midnight as it is with astronomers, and what is the evidence for that from the Book or the Sunnah?
A1 : The day begins for Muslims with the appearance of the second dawn. Allah the Exalted said:[Al-Baqarah 2:187] , up to His saying: [Al-Baqarah 2:187] , and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Sahih al-Bukhari 622, 623 . And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.

A1 : The day begins for Muslims with the appearance of the second dawn. Allah the Exalted said:
It has been made permissible for you the night preceding fasting to go to your wives
أُحِلَّ لَكُمْ لَيْلَةَ الصِّيَامِ الرَّفَثُ إِلَى نِسَائِكُمْSo now, have relations with them and seek that which Allah has decreed for you. And eat and drink until the white thread of dawn becomes distinct to you from the black thread [of night]. Then complete the fast until the sunset.
