Explanation of the beginning of standing in night prayer

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q290: The questioner S. A. A. from the Northern Region asks: At what time does standing in night prayer begin, and is the last third of the night the best time for it?
A290: Standing in night prayer begins from the 'Isha' prayer until the dawn breaks; the entire period is a time for standing in night prayer. One who is confident that he will be able to get up in the last part of the night should delay it, as this is better; he should get up in the last part of the night and perform the tahajjud prayer. However, if he is not confident that he will be able to get up in the last part of the night, he should get up in the first part of the night, perform the witr prayer, and then go to sleep.
