Q: We inform your Eminence that on the facade of a building belonging to one of the institutions in Riyadh there is a large, illuminated electronic board with red English numerals, approximately four meters wide and two meters high, indicating the countdown of the remaining days of the Gregorian year until the full year 2000 CE, and the end of the year, and the celebration of the New Year and the entry into the third Gregorian millennium . On this day, in which I am writing to you, 2/7/1420 AH, the countdown reached 81 days, and the board is prepared, after the expiration of eighty-one days, to indicate the year 2000 with four digits. This is an announcement of the slogan of the Christians and their history, and a participation
with them in their rituals and festivals. This involves abandoning the history of Muslims and wounding their feelings, deceiving scholars and intellectuals, and spreading this Christian principle. We ask that Allah grant you success and success to the one in charge to cancel this board, and its cancellation will be a joy for the Muslims. May Allah preserve you.
A : It is not permissible for a Muslim who believes in Allah and the Last Day to show eagerness and interest in the history of the aforementioned millennium or any other occasions related to the religion of the Christians or other disbelievers, such as dating by the aforementioned millennium, or linking certain matters to it, such as contracting marriage, starting business operations, or considering it a festival; because in that there is a type of approval of what they are upon, and flattery toward them, and assistance and promotion of the celebration of their festivals, in which crosses are raised, falsehood is exalted, and what Allah and His Messenger have forbidden is violated. And Allah - (Mighty and Majestic) - says:[Al-Ma'idah 5:2] , and it is established from the Prophet - (peace and blessings be upon him) - that he said: Sunan Abi Dawud 4031Hasan Sahih (Al-Albani) And the Muslim who is pleased with Allah as his Lord, Islam as his religion, and Muhammad - (peace and blessings be upon him) - as his Prophet and Messenger - it is obligatory upon him to follow the straight path of Allah upon which the Prophet - (peace and blessings be upon him) - and his noble Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) were, and the requirement of standing firm on this path is that the Muslim should avoid the path of those against whom anger was invoked and those who went astray, from the Jews and the Christians and others of
the disbelievers, so he does not follow them in their misguidance, nor imitate them in their actions and clothing, nor mix with them in their festivals, churches, and places of worship, nor show joy and happiness at their occasions, nor congratulate them on them, but rather he disavows all of that and turns his face to Allah and asks Him for guidance and steadfastness upon it until he meets Him. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.

وَلاَ تَعَاوَنُوا عَلَى الإِثْمِ وَالْعُدْوَانِ وَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ إِنَّ اللَّهَ شَدِيدُ الْعِقَابِHe who copies any people is one of them.
