Q: A man says to his companion: “O stupid” or “O fool,” or “O dullard” . What is the ruling on that? Knowing that his brother feels distress in his chest, is it permissible for us to utter those words even if he does not feel distress, and what do you advise the young people who are excessive in mocking others ?
A : It is not permissible for a Muslim to belittle his Muslim brother, or to describe him with attributes of deficiency, nor to nickname him with names he does not like; because of His saying, the Exalted:[Al-Hujurat 49:11] , and because of his saying, peace and blessings be upon him: narrated by Ahmad and al-Bukhari , and whoever has done any of belittling his brothers or mocking them - then he must repent and seek forgiveness from his brothers. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.

A : It is not permissible for a Muslim to belittle his Muslim brother, or to describe him with attributes of deficiency, nor to nickname him with names he does not like; because of His saying, the Exalted:
O you who have believed, let not a people ridicule [another] people; perhaps they may be better than them; nor let women ridicule [other] women; perhaps they may be better than them. And do not insult one another and do not call each other by [offensive] nicknames. Wretched is the name of disobedience after [one's] faith. And whoever does not repent - then it is those who are the wrongdoers.

Every Muslim is forbidden to another Muslim: his blood, his wealth, and his honor.
