Increasing the Performance of Acts of Obedience and Keeping the Company of the Righteous and People of Knowledge

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa No. ( 14492 )
Q: Praise be to Allah. I recently committed myself to the religion, after a period of loss that lasted more than six years of my life. However, I am still attached to the past. Whenever I go to the mosque for gatherings of dhikr, doubt tempts me to turn back, on the pretext that I am not fit to sit with these righteous people, so I return before reaching the mosque gate.
A : It is obligatory for you to praise and thank Allah for having brought you out of a life of loss and misguidance into the light of guidance and faith, and from the depths of corruption and sins into the beacon of obedience and certainty. You should increase in the performance of acts of obedience, keep the company of the righteous and people of knowledge, and attend the circles of dhikr in the mosques. Do not pay attention to Satan’s attempts to discourage you, but rather stick to the circles of dhikr,
for in them is much good. You must stay away from bad companions and beware of them and their company. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) warned against their companionship and compared the companion of a bad person to the bellows of a blacksmith: either it will burn your clothes, or you will find a foul smell from it. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
