Q: I have a brother who works in a prestigious position, and he has a wife and two daughters. He is a person of high standing whom many envy, but Allah guided him recently to collecting soil from graveyards, gathering old bones and cloths, and writing amulets on the pretext that he brings back the absent and breaks sorcery and the like. It is known that he knows that he does not benefit people nor harm them, but he does this on the pretext that he received a bequest from one of his deceased relatives, who used to do the same things to the extent of my knowledge and his knowledge. Also, he does not do this except in search of wealth and riches and gathering money, and he knows that it does not benefit people. What is the ruling in Islam on this suspicious act?
A: These mentioned actions are the actions of sorcerers and false messiahs who divert people from the Lord of the Worlds and consume the wealth of people by falsehood. It is obligatory for whoever knows his condition to give him advice, warn him of these actions, and frighten him with the Great Allah. If the situation requires it, his case should be referred to the authorities to deter him, discipline him, and have him receive the punishment he deserves. This is what is necessary so that his evil is kept away from people. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
