What are the beneficial books that help a Muslim understand the fundamentals of the religion?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : What are the books that help a Muslim understand the fundamentals of his religion and clarify the correct legal rulings for him? I have heard on your program that some books are not based on authenticity in what they contain, so I ask you to guide me to the most important of those authentic books?

The Shaykh : The most important book is the Book of Allah (Mighty and Majestic); you read it and learn its meaning, either through reliable tafsirs (exegeses) or from one of the scholars of knowledge. Then you reflect on the admonitions and rulings contained in the Qur'an, such as the saying of Allah the Exalted:
[This is] a blessed Book which We have revealed to you, [O Muhammad], that they might reflect upon its verses and that those of understanding would be reminded. كِتَابٌ أَنزَلْنَاهُ إِلَيْكَ مُبَارَكٌ لِيَدَّبَّرُوا آيَاتِهِ وَلِيَتَذَكَّرَ أُوْلُوا الأَلْبَابِ
[Sad 38:29]
. After that comes the Sunnah of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him). Among the books compiled on this topic are *Muntakha al-Akhbar* and *Bulugh al-Maram*. You should study them, review their commentaries, and ask reliable scholars of knowledge and religion about whatever is difficult for you in them. Then, whatever is available to you of books of Islamic jurisprudence, according to the guidance of the scholars of knowledge in your country.
And if a person has a sincere intention in seeking knowledge, then Allah the Exalted will make the path easy for him. In the authentic hadith from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
he who treads the path in search of knowledge, Allah would make that path easy, leading to Paradise for him من سلك طريقاً يلتمس فيه علماً سهل الله له به طريقاً إلى الجنة
Sahih Muslim 2699a
