Q: A man in our area in Yemen - the province of Taiz - named Ahmad Hasan Abd al-Rahman al-Shar'ibi , tells people in his travels that he is one of your students and that you have granted him permission in the field of healing through ruqyah. People have observed the following in him: A. He gives patients oil or ointment, claiming that he obtains it from India and sells it to patients for exorbitant amounts, and that it is a cure for the evil eye and sorcery.
2- He takes gold from some patients and tells them: I will recite the Qur'an over him, with the intention of expelling the jinn, on the condition that it not be returned to the patients; because the jinn took it. 3- We inform you that he previously resided in the Kingdom, and in al-Madinah al-Munawwarah , and he left during the Gulf Crisis in the year 1411 AH, corresponding to 1991 CE. Question: What is our position as students of knowledge regarding this man and his like?
A : What was mentioned regarding the method of treatment in the two previous paragraphs, whether it came from the aforementioned person or from someone else, is not among the lawful methods of treatment; rather, it is a form of deceiving people, taking their minds lightly, and stealing their money. The obligatory duty toward these people is to advise them, warn people of their evil, and report their case to the Shari'ah court so that the rulings of the pure Shari'ah are carried out against them. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
