A doctor breaking his fast for the sake of treating patients
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q14: A - Is it permissible for a doctor in normal circumstances to break his fast if he becomes exhausted from treating patients , and what is the ruling if he is performing surgical operations that may take a long time, and does the ruling differ if the situation is an emergency? B - Is it permissible for a patient to break his fast because of toothache ?
A14: It is not permissible for a doctor to break his fast for the sake of treating patients unless the patient is in a critical condition and their treatment depends on the treating doctor breaking his fast; in that case, it is permissible for the doctor to break his fast because it is to save a protected life from destruction. And if a person suffering from toothache needs to break his fast, he breaks it; because in that case, he is among the patients for whom Allah has granted a dispensation to break the fast.
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
