Is it permissible for a man to divide the estate during his lifetime?

The questioner : If he wants to divide it according to the Shari'ah, as you have mentioned and detailed, is this permissible before his death? Perhaps the wife might die before him, or perhaps one of the sons might die?

The Shaykh : As I said, it is permissible, as the scholars have mentioned. However, I do not point to it nor do I advise it. Rather, what I advise is that he keep the money in his hand for the three reasons I mentioned at the beginning of the answer.
