Inherited wealth, part of which was later found to be life insurance

The third question of Fatwa No. ( 9881 )
Q3: I inherited a sum of money, and shortly before I finished spending it, I learned that part of it was the amount of a life insurance policy whose premiums had not been completed. The owner died, and the insurance company paid the amount to the heirs. Is it sufficient to calculate this amount and give the poor an equivalent amount so that we may atone for this sin and purify what we have spent from it?
A3: It is sufficient to exit the sin by giving away the excess and distributing it to the poor to rid oneself of the forbidden wealth. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
