The Conditions of Repentance
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The sixth question of Fatwa No. ( 3866 )
Q 6: If a Muslim abandons the sins he used to commit, what are the conditions that must be followed regarding the one who repents from a sin , and what is your advice to one who commits sins, so that perhaps he may repent before his appointed time arrives, lest he lose out and regret it?
A 6: First: He should repent with a sincere and pure repentance, feel remorse for the sins he has committed in the past, and resolve not to return to them. He must return injustices to their rightful owners, in cases where return is possible, such as money. In cases where return is not possible, he should seek their forgiveness and pardon, while making du'a' for them and speaking well of the good he knows about them. Second: We advise him to read the Qur'an and the hadiths that encourage good and warn against evil, to remember the Hereafter and its terrors, to keep the company of the righteous and avoid the wicked, so that perhaps he may repent from his sin and seek forgiveness from his Lord, and be deterred from the sins he entertains in his mind.
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
