Fatwa number ( 20152 )
Q: I am a married woman with four children at various stages of education. My husband and I faced a financial crisis, and my husband had to borrow money from
a friend of his, and he signed checks for him. However, my circumstances have not improved enough to repay this debt, because after borrowing, my husband was involved in an accident that resulted in his dismissal from work. He was granted a small pension that barely covers our needs, so he was unable to repay the debt. This person began to demand his debt and hint to me that he was willing to forgive this debt if I did what he wanted, which is to betray my husband and commit a sin . He began to press me, chase me, and embarrass me in front of my neighbors until I would submit to his orders. However, I fear Allah because I pray and fulfill all the obligations that Allah has imposed on us. I tried hard to work, but this devil threatens me that he will place a lien on me and expose me and my children to ruin. What should I do, and what is the ruling of the religion in this matter?
A: I advise you to fear Allah (Mighty and Majestic) and to strive to control your self so that you do not respond to the call of evil and lewdness. It is obligatory for you, if this mentioned man does not stop his ugly actions that harm him and others, to bring his case to those who can discipline and deter him, such as the Shari'ah court and the security authorities. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
