The third question of Fatwa No. ( 6194 )
Q3: Why were the verses of stoning not written in the mushaf, while its ruling exists in Islamic sacred law?
A3: The verses of stoning are those whose wording was abrogated while their meaning remains clear and decisive, as is known in the principles of jurisprudence. Al-Bukhari and Muslim recorded in the two Sahihs that 'Umar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) stood up, praised Allah and extolled Him, then said: "As for what follows, O people, Allah the Exalted sent Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) with the truth and revealed to him the Book. Among what was revealed to him was the verse of stoning, which we recited and memorized. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) carried out the stoning, and we carried it out after him. I fear that time will pass for people until someone says: 'We do not find the verse of stoning in the Book of Allah,' and they will be misguided by abandoning an obligation that Allah has revealed. Therefore, stoning in the Book of Allah is a truth applicable to a man or woman who commits unlawful sexual intercourse after having been married, when the evidence is established, or pregnancy, or confession." Not everything that Allah has legislated is written in the Qur'an; rather, that is His command, and He rules therein as He wills.
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
