One who repents from smoking and then returns to it: what is required of him?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa number ( 4071 )
Q: I am a man who smokes, and I have suffered harm from it. I repented from smoking, but after a period of time, I returned to it and I am still doing so. Please advise me on the consequence for one who repents and then returns. May Allah reward you with good for me?
A: Smoking is forbidden; because of the health, economic, and social harms it contains, and the evidence has been presented regarding this. As for one who repents from it and then returns to it, he must repent to Allah anew. This is by quitting it, feeling remorse for the past smoking, and making a sincere resolve not to return to it. We ask Allah to accept your repentance and to forgive us and you.
