Q 1: What is the ruling on taking benefit from alcohol or khamr (intoxicants) in general , namely: using it in furniture varnish, in treatment, fuel, cleaning, perfuming, purification, and making it a solvent?
A 1: Whatever intoxicates when much of it is drunk is khamr (intoxicants), and its small amount is the same as its large amount, whether it is called alcohol or by another name. It is obligatory to pour it out, and it is forbidden to keep it for use or benefit in cleaning, purification, fuel, perfuming, or converting it into a solvent or any other type of benefit. As for that which does not intoxicate when much of it is drunk, it is not khamr, and it is permissible to use it for perfuming, treatment, purifying wounds, and the like.
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
