Fatwa number ( 2052 )
Q: The questioner contracted marriage with a woman but did not consummate it. He visited her family, and they treated him badly. He became angry over this visit, and after a discussion with a relative of his, he said: "It is forbidden for me to return to Ta'if , the place where my wife resides,
except in the summer. This was said about three months ago. If the visit takes place in the summer, what is obligatory for him?
A: If the matter is as you described, it is permissible for you to return to Ta'if , the place where your wife resides, before the summer you intend. You must expiate the oath by feeding ten poor people, giving each poor person half a sa' (a dry measure of about 3 kg) of wheat or the like, or clothing them, or freeing a believing slave. If you are unable to do so, you must fast for three days. However, if you go in the summer, you owe no expiation. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
