The second question of Fatwa number ( 765 )
Q2: I forbade my wife and said: (She is forbidden to me and permissible to me, and my mother is what is permissible to me). Did she actually become forbidden to me? I was in a state of anger.
A2: What happened on your part regarding forbidding your wife is considered zihar, not divorce. If you wish to return to your wife, you must pay the expiation for zihar before you have any enjoyment of her. Allah has explained the expiation for zihar in His saying:[Al-Mujadila 58:3-4]
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.

(3) And those who pronounce thihar from their wives and then [wish to] go back on what they said - then [there must be] the freeing of a slave before they touch one another. That is what you are admonished thereby; and Allah is Acquainted with what you do. (4) And he who does not find [a slave] - then a fast for two months consecutively before they touch one another; and he who is unable - then the feeding of sixty poor persons.
