A promise of divorce is not considered a divorce

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa number ( 8190 )
After I contracted my marriage at the mosque, I went to my wife’s house, and there I was surprised to find that her brother had gathered his companions, the bad ones, and they were singing forbidden songs, clapping into the microphone, and beating the
drums. I got angry and left the house. On the way, I met my older brother, and I said to him while I was in my anger: “Go to her father and tell him: We want to divorce.” I want you to know that the matter of divorce was not in my intention at all, but I said that to express my dissatisfaction with what I found. Please inform us, may you be rewarded, about the ruling of the Shari'ah in this matter.

A: If no words came from you except your saying to your brother: “We want to divorce,” then there is no pronouncement of divorce in this speech; rather, it is a promise of divorce. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
