Fatwa No. ( 326 )
Q1: There was a dispute between him and his wife, so he said to her: If so, you are divorced
and it will befall you. He asks: What are the consequences for him?

A: If the matter is as the questioner described, that he said to his wife after his dispute with her: "If so, you are divorced, and it will befall you," and that he did not say to her anything other than this, then what came from him is not considered a divorce, but rather it is a promise from him to divorce her. If he divorces her after that promise, then the divorce he pronounces takes effect. If he does not divorce her, then this promise has no effect on his marital life. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
