Q: We wish to inform your eminence that we often go to the father or relative of a slain person to ask him to forgive the retaliation. Sometimes we stay with him for a while hoping he will forgive, whether in exchange for money or otherwise. Sometimes we feign illness by refusing to eat until he grants us our request or refuses. We have heard from some scholars that it is not permissible to approach such a case. We hope you will guide us to what is obligatory.
A: There is no blame in that, if Allah wills; because forgiving retaliation by the blood avenger is encouraged in the Shari'ah. The Exalted said in the verse of retaliation:

And Ahmad , Abu Dawud , al-Nasa'i , and Ibn Majah (may Allah have mercy on them) narrated from Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) who said: Sunan Ibn Majah 2692Sahih (Darussalam) . And retaliation is not among the hudud (fixed punishments) in which intercession is prohibited. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
