Saying, “I forgive you for the sake of Allah and His Messenger”

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa No. ( 13064 )
Q: We find that some people, when they wish to forgive you and you have made a mistake with them, say to you: “I forgive you for the sake of Allah and His Messenger.” Is this shirk (associating partners with Allah)? We ask for your guidance.
A : It is not permissible for a person to say to one who has wronged him: “I forgive you for the sake of Allah and His Messenger.” Rather, he should say: “I forgive you for the sake of Allah alone.” And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
