Is it permissible for a person in a state of major ritual impurity to remain in the mosque?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : What is the ruling on a person in a state of major ritual impurity remaining in the mosque?

The Shaykh : It is not permissible for a person in a state of major ritual impurity to remain in the mosque, based on the saying of Allah the Exalted:
O you who have believed, do not approach prayer while you are intoxicated until you know what you are saying or in a state of janabah, except those passing through [a place of prayer] يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا لا تَقْرَبُوا الصَّلاةَ وَأَنْتُمْ سُكَارَى حَتَّى تَعْلَمُوا مَا تَقُولُونَ وَلا جُنُبًا إِلَّا عَابِرِي سَبِيلٍ
[An-Nisa 4:43]
If he is merely passing through, such as entering from one door and exiting from another, there is no harm. However, otherwise, it is not permissible for him to remain in the mosque, unless he performs ablution. If he performs ablution, it is permissible for him to remain in the mosque, even if his ablution is broken afterward, because performing ablution mitigates the state of major ritual impurity. For this reason, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was asked: "Can one of us sleep while in a state of major ritual impurity?" He said (peace and blessings be upon him):
If he performs ablution, let him sleep. إذا توضأ فليرقد
This indicates that ablution mitigates the state of major ritual impurity. Therefore, if he performs ablution, he may remain in the mosque.

The questioner : May Allah reward you.
