The Ruling on Contraception or Family Planning

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The first question of Fatwa No. ( 3205 )
Q1: Whatis the ruling on preventing pregnancy or family planning?
A1: Contraception is forbidden—unless there is a dire necessity that calls for it—and family planning is absolutely forbidden; because it contradicts the objective of the Shari'ah and its encouragement of marriage for chastity and the multiplication of offspring, and because it involves having a bad opinion of Allah regarding the abundance of His provision and His generosity toward those who do so out of fear of being unable to provide maintenance. If there is a dire necessity, such as a danger to the woman's health from pregnancy or from its recurrence, it is permissible for her to prevent it or prevent its recurrence by means that do not harm her, such as coitus interruptus, taking pills, or the like, in order to preserve her health.
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
