Fatwa number ( 16949 )
Q: Given that I work in a general services and recruitment office, I handle certain transactions, such as bringing in maids without mahrams, and
they may be non-Muslims, as well as bringing in drivers and laborers, a significant proportion of whom are non-Muslims. Is this work permissible, what is the ruling on my practicing it, and am I considered a partner in the sin? Please inform us, may Allah reward you.
A: The principle of the pure Shari'ah is the prohibition of earning money from work that is not permissible in Islamic law. It is known from the texts of the noble Prophetic Sunnah that a woman traveling without a mahram is not permissible in Islamic law, and that two religions do not coexist in the Arabian Peninsula. Therefore, it is not permissible for disbelievers to settle in the Arabian Peninsula , nor to bring them in to work there without dire necessity. Consequently, engaging in work that leads to violating these sanctities is not permissible. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
