Q2: Is it permissible for adult men to beat the hand drum?
A2: Announcing the marriage is a recommended practice; based on the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): narrated by Ahmad and graded authentic by Ibn Hibban and al-Hakim. One of the means of announcing it is beating the hand drum, but this is for women, not men; because it is established from them practically, unlike men, in the early period. There are hadiths regarding beating the hand drum in marriage, among them what al-Tirmidhi narrated from 'A'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said: Sunan Ibn Majah 1895Da'if (Darussalam) meaning: the hand drum. In its chain is 'Isa ibn Maimun , and he is weak. Ibn Majah also narrated it, and in its chain is Khalid ibn Iyas , and he is a denouncer of hadith. It was also narrated through other paths that are not free from criticism, so it is not valid to use these two as evidence for its permissibility for men. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
