A man giving his daughter in marriage without a mahr
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The fourth question of Fatwa No. ( 1943 )
Q4: If a person gives his daughter to another person, is that permissible and considered a marriage without a mahr?
A4: It is not permissible for a person to give his daughter to another person without a mahr, and this is not considered a valid marriage for the one who contracted it with her with the intention that he will not take a mahr. She is entitled to the mahr of her women, because she is not his property, and the mahr is one of her rights. The Book and the Sunnah have indicated the obligation of the mahr in marriage, as Allah the Exalted said:[An-Nisa 4:24] the verse from Surat al-Nisa.
And because marriage by mere gift without a mahr is a characteristic of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), as He the Exalted and Majestic said:[Al-Ahzab 33:50] the verse from Surat al-Ahzab. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.

And because marriage by mere gift without a mahr is a characteristic of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), as He the Exalted and Majestic said:
and a believing woman if she gives herself to the Prophet [and] if the Prophet wishes to marry her, [this is] only for you, excluding the [other] believers
