The third question of the fatwa number ( 4009 )
Q3: It is reported in a hadith of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him): that when a woman reaches the age of menstruation, it is not permissible for anything of her to be seen except the two hands and the face, and this is the hijab, are there any hadiths that indicate the niqab?
A3: This hadith was narrated by Abu Dawud in the chapter on what a woman may reveal of her adornment in his (Sunan), saying: It was narrated to us by Ya'qub ibn Ka'b al-Antaki, and Mu'ammal ibn al-Fadl al-Harrani , who said: It was narrated to us by al-Walid from Sa'id ibn Bashir from Qatadah from Khalid , and Ya'qub ibn Daryak said from Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her):
This and this, and he pointed to his face and his two hands. It is a mursal hadith; because Khalid ibn Daryak did not meet Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), and in its chain is Sa'id ibn Bashir al-Azdi , and he is also called al-Basri; because his origin is from Basra , and some scholars of hadith considered him trustworthy, while Ahmad and Ibn Ma'in and Ibn al-Madini and al-Nasa'i and al-Hakim Abu Ahmad and Abu Dawud considered him weak, and Muhammad ibn Abdullah ibn Numayr said: It is a munkar hadith, it is nothing, it is not a strong hadith, he narrates from Qatadah munkarat, and Ibn Hibban said: He was poor in memory and gross in error, he narrates from Qatadah what is not corroborated, and al-Saji said: He narrated from Qatadah munkarat, and he narrated this hadith from Qatadah , then Qatadah was a tadlis narrator, and he narrated this hadith from Khalid ibn Daryak with: from, and in it is al-Walid who is Ibn Muslim , and he used tadlis al-taswiya, and he was raf'i. And thus the weakness of this hadith becomes clear from several aspects.
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.

That Asma bint Abi Bakr (may Allah be pleased with them both) entered upon the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) while she was wearing thin garments, so the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) turned away from her and said: O Asma, when a woman reaches the age of menstruation, it is not fitting that anything of her be seen except
