Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : What is the authenticity of this hadith, O honorable Shaykh, that Asma (may Allah be pleased with her) entered upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) while wearing light clothing, so he averted his face from her and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to her:
O Asma! When a woman reaches the age of menstruation, it is obligatory that nothing of her be seen except the face and the two hands يا أسماء! إن المرأة إذا بلغت المحيض يجب ألا يظهر منها إلا الوجه والكفين
or as he (peace and blessings be upon him) said?

The Shaykh : This hadith is weak; its chain is broken and it contains narrators who are subject to criticism. Furthermore, its text is denounced, for how befitting is it for Asma (may Allah be pleased with her) to enter upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) wearing thin clothing! The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) is too noble and honorable for a woman wearing thin clothing to enter upon him in a way that necessitates the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) averting his face from her. It is denounced in its text and weak in its chain, and it is not to be relied upon. We have clarified this in a treatise of ours titled "The Treatise on Hijab." It is small in size but great in meaning. Whoever wishes to read it will find in it benefit and good, if Allah wills. Yes.

The questioner : May Allah reward you and bless you. The honorable Shaykh says, the questioner asks.
