Deferred mahr becomes obligatory upon the arrival of the term

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The second question of Fatwa No. ( 15887 )
Q2: A man’s wife has a deferred mahr due from her husband, and the husband wants to pay the deferred mahr in an official manner, as written in the marriage contract, so that his soul is not burdened by debt on the Day of Resurrection. What should he do? May Allah reward you with good.
A2: It is obligatory for the husband to pay his wife the deferred mahr when
its term arrives, if it is deferred, or when she demands it, if it is not deferred, unless she grants him a dispensation; for Allah the Exalted said:
And give the women [upon marriage] their [bridal] gifts graciously. But if they give up willingly to you anything of it, then take it in satisfaction and ease.
[An-Nisa 4:4]
It is not necessary for the payment to be official; rather, if he hands it to her in an ordinary manner, his liability is discharged, unless he fears that she will deny receiving it, in which case he should document it officially. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
