Inheritance of the freed female slave
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa number ( 237 )
Q: We previously had a female slave whom we freed. She has now passed away to the nearness of her Lord. She has no children or any other relatives. She has household furniture and a house. Do I have the right to dispose of the furniture and the house? Can I give charity and offer a sacrifice on her behalf?
A: As for this freed female slave who has died and left behind household furniture and a house, the priority is to settle her debts and execute her lawful bequest. Whatever remains after that belongs to her closest relatives by blood. If she has no heirs, it belongs to her manumitter, whether male or female. If the person who personally freed her is not found, it belongs to the closest male agnatic relatives of the manumitter. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
