The Committee's Opinion on the Book *This Is My Will*
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa No. ( 19774 )
Q: I have attached to my letter a copy of the booklet: (This Is My Religious Will) , as people in our area have started buying it and believing that it is obligatory to apply it in this specific form. Some buy it and give it as a gift, while others distribute it for free in Quran memorization centers, either to act upon it or to benefit from it. We seek your esteemed opinion on the ruling of the Shari'ah regarding this, and the ruling on distributing it, gifting it, or acting upon it in the same manner outlined within it. And may Allah reward you with good.
May Allah reward you.
A: Upon reading the aforementioned will, nothing was found in it that contradicts the Shari'ah. However, its formulation as a will for every individual and its distribution to the people gives the impression that it is recommended for every person to bequeath what is contained in it, or to buy it and hand it over to the one who will take charge of his affairs after his death, even though there is no need for that. This is because the rulings on funerals mentioned in it are found in books of Islamic jurisprudence, which those who need them can consult without a will or distribution. This is especially so since the practice of Muslims in this land—praise be to Allah—regarding funeral rulings follows the Sunnah. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
