The questioner : In the hadith of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), in which he clarifies the signs of the Day of Resurrection
And a slave woman will give birth to her mistress وتلد الأمة ربتها

The Shaykh : This is among the signs of the Hour, and it is mentioned in the hadith of Jibril when he came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and asked him about Islam, faith, and excellence in worship, and about the Hour. When he asked him about the Hour, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him:
The one who is asked about it is no better informed than the one who is asking. He said : Then tell me about its signs. He replied : That a maidservant should beget her mistress ما المسئول عنها بأعلم من السائل، قال: فأخبرني عن أماراتها؟ قال: أن تلد الأمة ربتها
Sunan Abi Dawud 4695Sahih (Al-Albani)
The term "slave woman" refers to a female slave, and "her mistress" refers to her owner. The meaning is that slave women may give birth to daughters, and that daughter may later become a mistress, i.e., an owner. Thus, the pronoun in his statement:
Her mistress ربتها
refers to the slave woman in terms of the category, not in terms of the specific individual. That is to say, the category of slave women will give birth to someone who will be an owner of slave women in the future. It does not mean that this specific slave woman who gave birth to this daughter will be the one who is enslaved to her. Rather, the meaning is what I mentioned: the pronoun refers to the slave woman in terms of the category, not in terms of the specific individual, and this occurs frequently.

The questioner : May Allah bless you.
