Q: My question consists of three points, as follows: First: Sometimes we go to this restaurant, but we do not find the food good, or in other words: the food is poor and not palatable to the soul. Is it permissible for us to take food from the food allocated to the airplanes, after asking permission from the section manager (the person in charge) who is in charge of the food? Knowing that this manager is often Christian or Buddhist in religion, and also that we know in advance that this food belongs to the company,
and not to him, and the company's internal regulations prohibit taking food from these sections, and therefore the restaurant was allocated for the employees. Second: In some sections, the work is heavy—what is called work pressure—due to the large number of airplanes or flights, and we cannot postpone the work, due to our commitment to the airplane takeoff times, and usually we finish our work at the end of our working hours, which are nine hours, and we have not benefited from this hour allocated for eating, and usually the company we work for does not pay us any money for working in this hour, which forces us to take from this food allocated for air travel, either with permission as mentioned previously or without permission. Third: Does this work of ours—namely, taking the food specific to the airplanes with or without the knowledge of the section manager or the duty manager—fall under the category of forbidden food, or forbidden money, about which hadiths have been reported?
A: If the situation is as mentioned, you entered the aforementioned employment with the aforementioned company under a contract, so you are entitled only to what was agreed upon in the contract, with its conditions that are valid in the Shari'ah, including the provision of the aforementioned meal,
and it is not permissible to violate the contract by eating a meal from what is allocated to the airplanes except with permission from the one who has that right by the company's regulations, and we advise you to review the matter with the officials in charge of the aforementioned work and clarify the point of complaint to them to find appropriate solutions.
