Ruling on a woman traveling by airplane without a mahram

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
Does a woman traveling alone from her city to her husband in the city where he works, with the journey taking about four hours by plane, fall under the prohibition of a woman traveling without a mahram?

Answer:
Yes, traveling by plane, or by train, or by car, all of it falls under this. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
A woman should not travel except with a Dhu-Mahramلا تسافر المرأة إلا مع ذي محرم
Sahih al-Bukhari 1862
The Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) is not reporting about himself, but about the Shari'ah of Allah. The Messenger reports about the Shari'ah of Allah, and Allah knows what will occur in the last times regarding airplanes, trains, cars, and other things. He knows everything. And the Shari'ah is general. Allah has legislated for us laws until the Day of Resurrection. They are not specific to the time of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), but they are general for his time, and after his time until our day, and after that until the Day of Resurrection. It is a continuous legislation. So it is not a legislation specific to one day over another, or one year over another, or one country over another. It is a legislation for the whole community. So a woman must not travel except with a mahram, whether her travel is by airplane, or by car, or by train, or by any other means.

Question: If she has a son who is seven years old, is he a mahram for her?

Answer: He is not her mahram. The mahram is a man who has reached puberty, who is fifteen years old or older.

Question: Many women are met at the airports by their husbands and their relatives. Is this permissible?

Answer: There is no evidence for this. This is not permissible. This is a mistake. It is a form of laxity.

Question: And the flight attendants who always travel on the plane?

Answer: The flight attendants, and those who are not flight attendants.

Question: The flight attendants who work on the plane?

Answer: The ruling is the same. The ruling is the same.

Question: ... in the company of women?

Answer: Even in the company of women, there is no evidence for it. Even Hajj is not permissible for her. Even for Hajj, she cannot perform Hajj unless she has a mahram with her. Otherwise, she is excused until she has a mahram for Hajj, and for other travel. This is the correct opinion among the scholars.
