The third question of Fatwa No. ( 2014 )
Q3: I fast three days of every month, and in one of the months
I was afflicted with an illness so I did not fast them. Do I have to make them up or pay an expiation?
A3: Voluntary fasting is not made up, even if it is left by choice, although it is better for the Muslim to persist in the good deeds he used to do; because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:Sahih Muslim 782c So you have no obligation to make it up, nor any expiation. Know that if a person leaves a good deed he used to do due to illness, inability, travel, or the like, his reward is still written for him; based on the hadith: Sahih al-Bukhari 2996 narrated by al-Bukhari in his Sahih. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
