Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : What is the ruling on fasting the Day of 'Arafah with the intention of making up a missed fast?

The Shaykh : Fasting the Day of 'Arafah is a confirmed recommended practice (sunnah) and it has great virtue. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said regarding it:
I anticipate that Allah will forgive (the sins) of the year after it, and the year before it. أحتسب على الله أن يكفّر السنّة التي قبله والسنّة التي بعده
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 749Da'if (Darussalam)
If a person fasts it voluntarily, that is good. And if he fasts it as a make-up, meaning that he had days of Ramadan remaining to make up and he fasted the Day of 'Arafah as one of those days he owed, there is no blame on him. I hope that he will receive the reward for the make-up fast and the reward for the Day of 'Arafah. Yes.
