The dispensation for breaking the fast for a guard soldier
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The first question of Fatwa No. ( 2448 )
Q1: I was a soldier in the guard of King 'Abd al-'Aziz (may Allah have mercy on him). We traveled from al-Ta'if to Riyadh, and in the middle of the blessed month of Ramadan in the year 59 AH, while we were fasting, tents were set up for us near the al-Murabba Palace in the pre-dawn hours. The rifles were linked together and a guard was placed over them for two hours before noon to protect them from the summer heat. I became so thirsty that my saliva dried up in my throat. At the end of that time, I drank and completed my fast, and I made up the day, even though I and everyone else did not know whether our direction was considered traveling or residing. I asked some religious men about the ruling in this matter, and they said: "He must make up one day of Ramadan for each day he broke." Please inform us of the ruling in this matter?
A1: If the situation is as you described, you are excused for breaking your fast, and you did well in completing your fast for that day. You must make up one day for the day you broke for an excuse. You mentioned in your question that you fasted one day for it, and that suffices you. Allah is Merciful to His servants.
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad and his family and companions.
