The first question of Fatwa No. ( 4949 )
Q1: We live in Australia , and this year a large delegation of Muslims from Australia intends to perform the obligatory Hajj. We are traveling from, for example, Sydney , and our first stop is one of three airports: Jeddah , Abu Dhabi , or Bahrain . Where is our miqat for entering the state of ihram? Do we enter ihram from Sydney or from somewhere else? I ask for your answer, and thank you.
A1 : Neither Sydney , nor Abu Dhabi , nor Bahrain is a miqat for Hajj or 'Umrah, and Jeddah is not a miqat for people like you; rather, it is a miqat for its residents. It is obligatory for you to enter ihram when you pass over the first miqat you encounter by air, intending to go to Makkah ; based on the statement of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) when he designated the miqats:Sahih Muslim 1181a. You can ask the flight attendant before passing over it. If you intend to enter ihram for Hajj or 'Umrah and you recite the talbiyah before the miqat you will pass over, fearing that you might pass it without being in ihram, there is no harm. As for preparing for ihram by cleaning, taking a bath, or wearing the ihram garments, this is permissible anywhere.
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
