The Meaning of the Hadith: Whoever Among You Sees an Evil

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The fourth question of the fatwa numbered ( 4262 )
Q4: What is the interpretation of the noble hadith narrated by Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), which is:
He who amongst you sees something abominable should modify it with the help of his hand; and if he has not strength enough to do it, then he should do it with his tongue, and if he has not strength enough to do it, (even) then he should (abhor it) from his heart, and that is the least of faith.من رأى منكم منكرًا فليغيره بيده، فإن لم يستطع فبلسانه، فإن لم يستطع فبقلبه وذلك أضعف الإيمان
Sahih Muslim 49a
So what is changing it with the heart, and is the one who changes it with his heart rewarded for it?

A4: This hadith mentions the levels of changing evil, and they are three degrees: changing it with the hand for the one who is able to do so, such as rulers, a man with his son,
and his wife. If the person of obligation is not able to change it with the hand, then he changes it with his tongue, such as scholars and those in their position. If he is not able to change it with the tongue, he moves to changing it with the heart. Changing it with the heart is done by disliking the act of evil and disliking the evil itself. Changing it with the heart is an action of the heart, and if the action of the heart is sincere and correct, the person is rewarded for it. And completing the disapproval with the heart includes leaving the place where the evil is. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
