The Intended Meaning of Changing What Is Wrong

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The second question of Fatwa No. ( 3633 )
Q2: Regarding the hadith ( changing what is wrong ), is the intention that in order for the wrong to be changed, we should leave the place where the wrong is, or should we remain and dislike it and deny it with our hearts? Please inform us, may you be rewarded.
A2: Muslims have different levels in denying what is wrong. Some are obligated to deny it with their hand, such as the one in authority and those who act on his behalf who have been granted the authority to do so, like a father with his son, a master with his slave, or a husband with his wife; if the perpetrator of the wrong cannot be stopped except by that means. And some are obligated to deny it through advice, guidance, prohibition, warning, and calling to what is
best, without using the hand or imposing force; out of fear of stirring up fitnah (trial, discord or temptation) and the spread of chaos. And some are obligated to deny it with the heart only; due to their weakness in influence and speech, and this is the weakest of faith. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) clarified that in his saying:
He who amongst you sees something abominable should modify it with the help of his hand; and if he has not strength enough to do it, then he should do it with his tongue, and if he has not strength enough to do it, (even) then he should (abhor it) from his heart, and that is the least of faith.من رأى منكم منكرا فليغيره بيده، فإن لم يستطع فبلسانه، فإن لم يستطع فبقلبه، وذلك أضعف الإيمان
Sahih Muslim 49a
It was narrated by Muslim in his Sahih from the hadith of Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him). If the Sharia'ah benefit in remaining in the environment where the wrong has become widespread is stronger than the harm, and he does not fear fitnah (trial, discord or temptation) for himself, he remains among those who commit the wrong, while denying it according to his level. Otherwise, he boycotts them to preserve his religion. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
