Fleeing with one's religion from the lands of disbelief

Fatwa number ( 19670 )
Q: To the owners of virtue and the scholars of the Muslims in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia , I ask you to inform me of your opinion regarding my question in this difficult moment. My life in this foreign country (Brazil) is in a town where everyone is Christian and an associate of partners with Allah. I am married to a non-Muslim woman, and I have three children from her: a son named Nasser, who is 37 years old, and a second son named Samir, a doctor who is 33 years old and married to a Brazilian girl. They do not embrace the religion of Islam, and the girl is 40 years old. They do not know how to read Arabic well, because there is no Islam in this town except for me, the poor servant. I am sad and depressed, and I weep over my condition in this vast majority of disbelief. What will my condition be if death comes to me and there is no believing Muslim who fears Allah to purify me, perform ablution for me, shroud me, and bury me, while there is no
cemetery where everyone is an associate of partners with Allah, and my life is difficult and full of misery. I am 75 years old, and I have not left the obligatory prayers or the recitation of the Qur'an, day and night. Is it permissible for me to leave my wife and children and return to my country, Lebanon , and die there among my Muslim brothers and parents? I hope that in your opinion and answer, my Lord will forgive me and guide my children. And peace be upon you and the mercy of Allah and His blessings.

A: If you are able to move to the lands of the Muslims, then it is obligatory for you to do so; fleeing for the sake of your religion; because Allah the Exalted has made it obligatory for the Muslim to migrate from the lands of disbelief to the lands of Islam, and He has threatened the one who does not do so while he is able to. He the Exalted said:
Indeed, those whom the angels take [in death] while wronging themselves - [the angels] will say, "In what [condition] were you?" They will say, "We were oppressed in the land." The angels will say, "Was not the earth of Allah spacious [enough] for you to emigrate therein?" For those, their refuge is Hell - and evil it is as a destination.
[An-Nisa 4:97]
And as for if you are unable to migrate, then you are excused on the condition of holding fast to the religion of Islam and standing firm upon it, due to His saying the Exalted after the previous verse:
(98) Except for the oppressed among men, women and children who cannot devise a plan nor are they directed to a way - (99) For those it is expected that Allah will pardon them, and Allah is ever Pardoning and Forgiving.
[An-Nisa 4:98-99]
And we advise you to advise your children and strive for their guidance and their entering into Islam instead of
Christianity. We ask Allah for guidance for us, for you, and for them. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
