Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa No. ( 12570 )
Q: What is meant by stationing in the path of Allah, and what is its virtue with Allah? With my great thanks and respect.
A: By stationing in the path of Allah is meant: the stationing of soldiers and their presence at the front of the enemy; to guard the borders and fortresses of the Muslim lands, and to protect them from the entry of enemies into the interior of the Islamic lands. Many hadiths have been narrated explaining the virtue of stationing in the path of Allah. In the Sahih of Imam al-Bukhari (may Allah have mercy on him), from Sahl ibn Sa'd al-Sa'idi (may Allah be pleased with him), that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
To guard Muslims from infidels in Allah's Cause for one day is better than the world and whatever is on its surfaceرباط يوم في سبيل الله خير من الدنيا وما عليها
Sahih al-Bukhari 2892
, and in the Sahih of Imam Muslim (may Allah have mercy on him), from Salman al-Farisi
(may Allah be pleased with him), from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said:
Keeping watch for a day and a night is better (in point of reward) than fasting for a whole month and standing in prayer every night.رباط يوم وليلة خير من صيام شهر وقيامه
Sahih Muslim 1913a
, and in the Musnad of Imam Ahmad, and the Sahih of Ibn Hibban and the Sunan of Abu Dawud and al-Tirmidhi, from Fadalah ibn 'Ubayd (may Allah be pleased with him) who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say:
Every dead person is sealed off from his deeds, except the one who dies while stationed in the path of Allah, for his deeds will continue to grow for him until the Day of Resurrection, and he will be safe from the trial of the graveكل ميت يختم على عمله، إلا الذي مات مرابطًا في سبيل الله، فإنه ينمو له عمله إلى يوم القيامة، ويأمن فتنة القبر
Sahih Ibn Hibban 23:155
And al-Tirmidhi said: Good and authentic. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
