Permissibility of selling the grains due in endowments that are distributed to feed the fasting, and purchasing dates in their place for the same purpose

Fatwa No. ( 534 )
Q: They have farms with specific endowments that are distributed to feed the fasting people in Ramadan. Currently, these are held by the farmers because there is no one coming to the mosques to request the food. The question is: Is it permissible to sell them and buy dates with the proceeds, and place them in the mosques so that the poor fasting people can break their fast with them?
A: If the situation is as the questioner described, namely that there is no one coming to the mosques to request the food, which is the grain after it has been cooked, and that it is possible to find people in the mosques who can break their fast with dates, then we see no harm in selling the grains due in these endowments and buying dates with the proceeds, to be served in the specific mosques mentioned in the bequests, so that the poor among the fasting people can break their fast with them. However, this should be done under the supervision of the judge and with his permission, as he is the competent legal authority responsible for safeguarding the public interest in the management of endowments.
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
